What does this mean?
For chess to move forward in Australia there needs to be greater clarity about Roles and Responsibilities. This diagram shows the responsibility for which organisation should focus their energy. Their primary customers are based on ratings ranges and the numbers of players in each range are given in brackets (current ACF standard ratings list).
An ACF event (say Australian Championships) should be focusing on about 121 players. Which, funnily enough, is about how many players they actually get! Take players at a State Level; 510 players spread over 7 states gives 72 players (which should be the average size of a weekender).
Each rung on the pyramid had the goal to:
a) Move players to the next level
b) Serve and delight their primary customers
c) Develop strong relationships with the layer immediately above and below (to facilitate smooth transitions)
d) Act as an amalgamator for the layer below (eg. ACF runs National Champs, CV runs Interclub, Clubs run junior clubs/coaching)
